STW’s David Flannery & Philip Jackson attended the 3-day Aacademy of Urbanism Congress in Aarhus Denmark, which was followed by a focused workshop in Copenhagen facilitated by the City’s Architectural, Planning and Economic department.

The Annual Congress was again an inspiring, thought-provoking opportunity to exchange ideas and hear leading-edge thinking from urbanists from around the globe. It utilised the assembled expertise of the Academicians to tackle live local issues through hands-on workshops, walking tours and discussions. Both Aarhus and Copenhagen displayed some of their innovative solutions to affordable housing, docklands regeneration, cloud burst flooding, public space standards, human & walkable cities and, of course the creation of superb bicycle infrastructure.

The delegates benefited from participation and provocative key note presentations by Jan Gehl and Rob Adams, both giant figures of new urban thinking. ‘David and Philip are sharing their knowledge across STW, particularly with our urban planning and housing teams. They also welcome opportunities to disseminate lessons learned across our client base. We are excited that Cork will be the 2018 Congress venue and look forward to welcoming the delegates and having an active participation in that event through our Cork office.
