The Innovation for Health Laboratory Building completes the double for STW at the University of Surrey, Guildford campus. Scott Tallon Walker Architects first building, the 5G Innovation Centre, was only just completed when they won the commission to design the Innovation for Health project right next door.

The 5G Innovation Centre is Britain’s largest telecommunications innovation research centre, working to create 5G, the fifth-generation mobile cellular system. 5G focuses on providing far greater capacity at lower power consumption. The BREEAM excellent design provides laboratories, offices and associated flexible research and teaching spaces arranged on four levels, connected by a circular void and spiral staircase – a key feature in the design concept.

This project lead’s the University of Surrey ‘Innovation for Health’ campaign, which address the demands our aging population place on the health service, providing skilled graduates to develop technologies such as remote monitoring and personalised care, not possible in today’s health system. The new Engineering for Health Learning Lab will move educational facilities in STEM Disciplines to a new level commensurate with future industry and societal needs.
